Assignment 2 Presentation

May 26, 2007 by tarahowell

All my entries for my blog have been building up so I thought it would be best to add them to my online blog. I did my presentation the other week for my second assignment and think it went quite well. The main problem I think that was wrong with my presentation is that is was not long enough but I will now know this for next time and try and work on filling the whole time slot I am given to present in. It was really good to see the other students presentations and work and to see what they are doing for this module with promoting themselves and their work as everyone is working on something very different.

Sam Kass Quartz Composer Files

May 9, 2007 by tarahowell

I found a website by Sam Kass a few months ago with Quartz Composer files on that people can download and use that add different effects to images and animations. I emailed him a few weeks ago and explained what I am doing with my University work and would it be possible and alright for me to use his Quartz Composer files for this with my videos and animations. He replied and said yes it is fine to do so, which has given me more tools to use and experiment with within my work.

Notes and Text for Assignment 2 Presentation

May 6, 2007 by tarahowell

Below are the notes and text I have prepared as a guide through my presentation and what to say and include.

Presentation Text and Notes

1. I am a video artist and produce a variety of short films, animations and videos.

2. The videos I produce include 2D and 3D effects, visuals and animations, stop motion videos and real life videos and films that I have recorded

3. I am continually experimenting with new and different ideas, techniques and effects and also new programs that I come across.

4. The main focus of my work and visuals is for it to be used by VJ’s for sets in clubs and venues, but currently I am also using my films and visuals to produce a music video.

5. I also take stills from my films, animations and videos I produce which act as another end product from my VJ visuals.

6. I will now show you several stills from different visuals that I have produced.

7. I think my work is quite different from other work I have seen on the market within the VJ network and also within music videos.

8. I will now show you a short mix I have put together for this presentation.

More VJ Websites

May 5, 2007 by tarahowell

I have found a couple more websites that sell DVD’s of visuals to venues and clubs to be used as backdrops or by VJ’s. I have found that all of the visuals I have seen are all very different from eachother including the visuals that I have produced, which is good as I have not found any work that is very similar to mine. Below are two images from the websites I have found showing stills from the videos and visuals.

Company Name

May 5, 2007 by tarahowell

I decided on a name last week to promote my video art and visuals as a business to make it look more professional when I present it to VJ’s and any other potential clients who would like to use my work. I decided I wanted to include my initials and also include production and visuals within the name. I have decided to use the name TJH Productions – Techno Visuals which I think sums up my work quite well. I may make a few changes to this name though such as changing techno to tekno or even chaning the ‘i’ in visuals to a ‘j’ so it reads ‘vjsuals’ and has has the initials in it for a visual/video jockey (VJ), which is who my work is aimed at. Just to check that there wasn’t any other companies with this name I typed it in a Google search and luckily enough there are not any other companies that I could find with this name. I then seperated my company name and typed in techno visuals, and again I didn’t find any other companies with the same name. However when I typed in TJH Productions the search results came up with one company with this name which sells furniture, but I have decided to keep the full name for my company – TJH Productions – Techno Visuals.

Dandelion Collective – VJ Visuals Website

May 4, 2007 by tarahowell

I came across a really good website the other week called the Dandelion Collective which presents the ‘Source – Pure Visuals’. It is a site that sells DVD’s of visuals that have been produced by different artists that are used for VJing. The site includes a number of different artists and displays several DVD’s that can be brought including 30 minutes of visuals, the site also shows some stills from the DVD’s and a few of the videos. This site is the only one that I have come across that shows what I wish to do with my video art and just shows that there is actually a market for it. Below are a few stills from some of the different DVD’s on the website:

Presentation Information From Lecture

May 4, 2007 by tarahowell

We were given a copy of a presentation the other week explaining about how to do a presentation. It wasn’y really much different and included a lot of the same information that I had already found and researched within other websites. However, it was good for a quick reminder of what I should be doing and including within my presentation.

Copyright Lecture

May 4, 2007 by tarahowell

The other week we had a lecture on copyright and I found it really helpful and informative. I knew a few basics about the copyright laws but after the lecture I felt I knew a lot more, however it does seem very complicated with all the different aspects within it. I think the safest thing to do if I am to promote my work is to send it to myself by recorded post to prove if need be that it is my original work. If I wanted to take my work further and eventually sell it I think it would then be best to actually pay for it to be copyrighted to stop anyone else from using or taking it and trying to pass it off as their own.
