Portfolio

May 28, 2007

The following text and images are what I have included within my portfolio for the company and business I have started for this module with my VJ visuals and videos:

1.TJH Productions – Techno Vjsuals

TJH Productions – Techno Visuals is a company that produces visuals and videos for VJ’s to use within sets and play at venues and clubs.

At the moment we currently have five visual categories that we sell separately on DVD’s. These five categories include animation, kaleidoscope, lights, psychedelic and travel. The company is hoping to increase its library of categories and visuals in the near future.

We currently have one artist producing the visuals and videos for the company and their artist statement is included within this portfolio.

Artist Statement

Throughout my life I have always been interested and involved with art in some way or another, with art courses I have done and work that I have completed and produced within my own time for my own pleasure. I have gone through many stages in my life of different types and forms of art, including producing paintings, cartoon art, graffiti art and taking photographs. All the way through these stages in my life I have always been interested in and amazed by animation and three dimensional and two dimensional effects and visuals and any sort of computer graphical images, and I have always wondered how they have been produced.

About three years ago after enrolling in a Digital Arts and Music Technology degree I started to learn how to do three dimensional animation and how it works and really got into it. I was only taught the basics in object and character animation but I found it amazing what you could produce with such a program. As I learnt to animate a little bit more I found I was interested in more conceptual animation. So rather than producing character animations with storylines and spoken words I preferred to produce animations with a concept and meaning behind them and to then add music to help portray what I was trying to put across in my work.

Since learning how to animate I have also learnt a few other programs that have enabled me to produce certain effects and add these to my animations. I now feel I am an able video artist and am pleased with the work I produce. My video art can used for a number of things such as to produce a music video and be used by a VJ (video/visual jockey) for a VJ set within a nightclub or venue. I also take stills from my video art which I think are really aesthetically pleasing which I feel adds another production piece from my animation, so I am a video artist and imagery artist.

At first with the animations I have produced I always started out with an exact plan of what I wanted the finished piece to look like. Currently I am very much involved with and interested in experimenting with the animations I have produced and any further animations I produce. I am experimenting with different effects and visuals to add to my video art using different programs, and it is quite interesting not to know what the out come will be. Sometimes it can go terribly wrong but then when it doesn’t I end up with a really good aesthetically pleasing piece of video art to view.

I would soon like to start producing my own music for some of my conceptual pieces of animation and video art because I think this really adds to the feel of the piece and in helping with providing the viewer with an extra way to put the concept across. When people view my conceptual animations I would really like for them to understand the meaning and feel something from the piece. With people viewing my video art from animation to three dimensional and two dimensional visuals and effects I would quite like for people to look at it and think its interesting and wonder how I produced it.

Although I have been producing work within this field for almost three years I still feel relatively new to it and am always finding something new to use within my videos, or a new effect to add to my animation and also having new ideas for animations to produce, which I think is absolutely great and is why I enjoy and love what I do.

At the moment I am more involved with experimenting and producing video art of animations and three dimensional and two dimensional visuals and effects for things such as VJ sets rather than producing a conceptual animation, but in the near future I would like to produce some more pieces like this. I have produced several pieces of video art and am working on more at the moment and have a few hundred images. I am also working on the production of a music video for a dance song where I am using some of the videos I have already produced and experimenting with different three dimensional and two dimensional effects and visuals and also different filming techniques to produce short videos for the piece.

3. Promotional DVD

Within this portfolio a DVD is also included which is a promotional DVD to show VJ’s and clients an example of what the company offers. The DVD includes five one minute mixes of each of the five visual categories to show what sort of videos are included within each set.

The following pages list the five visual categories and show four stills within each one from the different visuals and videos in the set.

Assignment 3 Final Presentation Text

Assignment 3 – Final Presentation

Presentation – Text

1. TJH Productions – Techno Vjsuals is a production company that produces visuals and videos for VJ’s to use within live sets.

2. I have produced a promotional DVD that I will be sending out to a list of VJ’s. The DVD includes five short mixes showing an example of what sort of videos are in each of the five visual categories. This DVD will just act as a promotion and advertisement of the visuals that the company produces, so then if the VJ wishes to purchase a full DVD of visuals then they have to get in touch and place an order. I have also done this as a way of getting feedback about the visuals and videos as once the VJ’s have viewed the promotional DVD they can then get in contact via email and leave their thoughts and views about them if they wish.

3. At the moment there are five visual sets including animation, kaleidoscope, lights, psychedelic and travel. I am hoping to produce more videos in the near future to build this library up so my company will have a wider range of visuals and videos to offer.

4. On the following pages I will show the one minute video mixes that I have put together that are included on the promotional DVD.

5. The company has also worked within the production of music videos and I will now show you one of these.

6. Each of the final DVD’s that can be brought contain 30 minutes of visuals. This includes 24 videos being one minute and fifteen seconds in length each. The final DVD’s are £15 each.

7. The company has a license with the visuals and videos that it produces and it is as follows – once brought, the owner of the DVD is licensed to play and use it within live VJ performances. The visuals/videos are copyright of TJH Productions – Techno Vjsuals and the artist and are not to be resold in any way.

8. I will now show you the portfolio I have put together for the company. This includes a statement about what the company does, an artist statement by the artist who has produced the visuals/videos (me), stills from each of the five visual sets, information about what is included on the DVD’s, the cost and the company license.

License of Work

May 26, 2007

I read the license for the DVD’s and visuals on ‘The Source – Pure Visuals’ website which is what I was searching for to get an idea of how to write mine. I will need to write and include a license of use of my DVD’s and visuals within my Portfolio and the promotional DVD’s that I will sending out to VJ’s. This is to makesure that people buying my DVD’s know what they are allowed to use my work for and what they are not allowed to do with it.

Posting My Work To Myself

May 26, 2007

I will soon be sending my work to myself through recorded post including all of my video art and visuals. I think I should do this now before I start sending out my promotional DVD to VJ’s. This is just to secure my rights and prove that the work is my original work and that I own it. I will also soon have to get my work copyrighted.

Selling My Video Stills

May 26, 2007

As well as my VJ visuals and videos I would really like to sell the stills and images from them aswell. This could then be a seperate part to my business as I think they would sell and people would buy them as they are very different to other art. However, at the moment I am just going to concertrate on promoting my business within the VJ field and selling visuals.

Other Products Produced From Visual Stills

May 26, 2007

When I went back and visited the ‘Grandmix VJ Visuals’ website I came across a link to a site where they sold clothing and accessories with images and stills from the visuals and videos they produce. I think this is quite a good idea and I could maybe think about this within my company with another way of selling my stills and images from my videos.

Final DVD

May 26, 2007

On the final DVD’s that I will be selling I have decided to include 30 minutes of video footage. This will include 24 videos that will be one minute and fifteen seconds long each.

Assignment 3

May 26, 2007

I have decided for my porfolio for the final assignment to include a folder about the business and a DVD. The portfolio folder will include information about the company and what it does, maybe an artist statement from the artist of the video art/visuals (myself) and a description of what is included on the Promotional DVD and the actual DVD’s that can be brought. I will also include stills from each of the visual sets. The promotional DVD will include 5 short video mixes showing examples of what the visuals look like from each of the five libraries. I will be sending this out to a list of VJ’s with contact information included so if they wish to buy and use my work then they can order one of the DVD’s with the visuals on. I may also produce one of the final DVD’s that I will be selling.

Prices for VJ Visual DVD’s

May 26, 2007

After visiting a couple of VJ visual websites a few weeks ago that I have written about in my blog they helped me decide on what I should include on my DVD’s with my VJ visuals and about how much footage I should include. Some DVD’s contained an hour and some contained 30 minutes, which I thought would be best. I then had to decide on a price for each DVD. ‘The Source – Pure Visuals’ site has now anounced that they will be putting their price up for their DVD’s containing 30 minutes of visuals from $34 to $50. Another site I have visited called ‘Liebrandaudio’ are selling their DVD’s for about 20 Euros. So I think a resonable price for my DVD’s would be £15 each, which would match up in a reasonable and competitive price compared with other DVD’s and companies.
